Those were among the reactions to the death of Terry Anderson, the former chief Middle East correspondent for The Associated Press. Anderson was one of America’s longest-held hostages after he was abducted from Lebanon in 1985 and held for almost seven years. Anderson, 76, died Sunday in Greenwood Lake, New York, of complications from recent heart surgery.

              An acute housing shortage hitting fire survivors on the Hawaiian island of Maui is squeezing out residents even as they try to overcome the loss of loved ones, their homes and their community. The situation is prompting state lawmakers to consider giving counties the authority to phase out vacation rentals. Hawaii Gov. Josh Green got so frustrated about the large number of short-term rentals that he blurted an expletive during a news conference. The deadly wildfire in August burned the core of Lahaina’s residential housing stock. Neighborhoods spared by the fire have a high percentage of vacation rentals.

                The first drug shown to slow Alzheimer’s hit the U.S. market over a year ago, but sales have lagged and diagnosis and treatment remain complicated. Major hospital systems have taken months to iron out plans to administer Leqembi, which requires regular infusions and imaging scans. Some health insurers have rejected coverage, and doctors expect that some patients will hesitate to take Leqembi. Doctors say it will take years to learn more about how the drug works outside the controlled studies that led to its approval. In the meantime, they say much work must be done to improve diagnosis.

                Body of missing Alabama mother found; boyfriend in custody

                A two-day search for a missing Alabama mother of four has ended after her body was found in southwest Birmingham. Al.com reports the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team found 40-year-old Nakita Davidson’s remains on Friday. Davidson was allegedly kidnapped by her boyfriend, 37-year-old Cedric Robertson, early Thursday, following a wreck near Elmwood Cemetery. A witness told investigators they saw Robertson shoot a woman before putting her into the trunk of her car. Authorities say the victim was found slain in the vehicle Friday. U.S. Marshals captured Robertson Friday at an abandoned house in southwest Birmingham. He faces a charge of first-degree kidnapping but more charges are expected.
