Chex Mix Recipe – Better Than The Back Of The Box (1)

When I say that this is better than the back of the box Chex Mix recipe I am not exaggerating. The recipe you find on the back of the Chex cereal box is good but doesn’t have enough flavor. It’s kind of blah. Almost like you’re eating it straight out of the box with a hint of seasoning added to it.

Growing up this was always one of my favorite snacks my mom would make. This was one the whole damn family loved. Especially at all the Holiday gatherings.

It was so popular, when I was in college, on occasion my mom would send me a big container of this party mix. All of my friends raved about it so much she ended up making each of them their very own container for Christmas. Her recipe was the bomb dot com.

Well, this concoction isn’t hers or I assume it isn’t. I know, I’m sorry. I couldn’t find her recipe it at the time I wanted to make this years ago. Or maybe I was just too lazy to try and look for it. So I crossed my fingers and clinched my butt cheeks hoping that I could put together something at least close to as good as hers. And let me tell you, I did, maybe even better I’m not sure. But I will say mine turned out FABULOUS (insert me singing out loud the word fabulous)!!!

So Mom, if you are reading this and it’s the same recipe you made for us growing up then Thank You so much for this awesomeness. If it’s all kinds of different then you may want to print this off for yourself because this sh*t is AMAZEBALLS!

This recipe is so versatile. You can leave out, change up, or even add to it. Here are a few suggestions of things you could add or swap out; gold fish, cheese its, different types of nuts, cheerios, garlic knots, or rye chips. If you like more of one thing over the other then do a little swapparooni.

First things first, pre heat your oven to 250°

In a large bowl add 4 cups corn chex, 4 cups rice chex, 2 cups wheat chex, a heaping cup of pretzels, half the can of mixed nuts, and half the can of cashew halves. (I know in the picture there are 2 small cans of cashews. That’s because they were out of the 10oz can when I went to the store for supplies. So if you get the smaller can like I did then use the whole thing)

Look how pretty I made it look in the bowl. Now, mix everything together.

In a small microwave safe bowl melt your stick of butter. Add 3 tbsp worcestershire, 2 tsp seasoned salt, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 3/4 tsp onion powder.

Mix all together.

Take a spoon and drizzle your butter mixture over your chex mix. Be sure to stop about half way through pouring your butter to stir and coat your party mix. Continue drizzling and stirring until you have coated everything in the butter concoction.

Line 2 baking sheets with tin foil. Split your chex mix up between the 2 pans, spreading everything out evenly.

Bake at 250° for 1 hour, stirring your Chex mix every 15 minutes. I put both pans in the oven a the same time. So be sure to alternate each pan from top rack to bottom rack with each 15 minute stir.

When finished baking pour your Chex mix across paper towels on your counter or table to allow for it to cool. Store in an air tight container afterwards and Enjoy!

That’s it. I usually make a double batch each time just because one batch never seems to last that long at our house.

I have to say that yes, it is good fresh out of the oven. But, it gets even better after you let it sit a while. So don’t come at me saying it’s meh. You have to give it a couple of hours and then you can really tell the difference between this and the recipe on the back of the box.

It’s this stuff right here that causes me to gain my “winter fat coat”. I make this stuff probably once a week once it turns cold (I don’t know why but I do) especially around the holidays. I will even eat it as my meal on occasion that’s how much I love this stuff (and I don’t feel bad about it either).

Enjoy the hell out of this Chex Mix Recipe, I know we sure do.

Until next time!

Here is another appetizer you should try that is a definite crowd pleaser at my house. They may look strange but trust me they are fantabulous. Click this link to try my Tortilla Things Recipe
